We're passionate about coffee. To us, it's a gift from the heavens! In fact, that's how we found our name. You see, it turns out that some of the earliest humans to use coffee believed the very same thing. The Oromo tribes of Ethiopia obviously loved it as much as we do, because they believed that any old plant can grow with sun and water, but coffee beans will only grow when watered by the tears of a God. Which God, you ask? That would be the Sky God - Waaqa. Navigating the world of specialty coffee is an adventure, but it's easy to get lost. Life's too short for coffee you don't love. That's why Waaqa is your personal, tailored guide - helping you to explore and discover new, favourite roasts. We're led by experts but fuelled by our community - so you'll benefit from informed advice, as well as know-how and tips from the tribe, to guide you on your journey.

How does the Waaqa team curate the coffees?

The world of specialty coffee is exciting but can be a little overwhelming too. That's why we're always on the look out for new roasters and incredible coffees to guide your exploration. Each month we choose to spotlight 2 roasters with complimentary yet distinctive coffees for you to discover even more blends, origins as well as a variety of flavour notes. Every coffee has been tested by our specially trained panel of 10 expert tasters. Although most of them have been tasting coffee for over 15 years, yet they are still being surprised and never tire of trying out new coffees. Firstly, whole bean colour is reviewed with special equipment for quality and roasting level evaluation. Then, all coffees are tasted 'blind' to evaluate their key sensory characteristics with each panelist scoring them individually. All scores are then reviewed to objectively compare between coffees as well as match them to a Taste Profile family. Our Waaqa team then curates best coffees that compliment each other in your exploration box to help you discover different roasters and coffees with confidence. So that you continue to be surprised and excited throughout your adventure in the world of specialty coffee!
